It’s been 12 years since the release of bossa, downtempo and Latin jazz duo Bet E and Stef’s debut album, Day By Day. Their reputation seems to have risen in recent years, and here Compost presents a deluxe two-disc retrospective of their short-lived career. It mixes slick, sensual originals – soft-focus songs, where Bet E’s fragile, quietly soulful vocals ride similarly dewy-eyed, sun-soaked grooves – with rarities and a hand picked selection of reworks from last year’s Remix Deluxe set. There’s plenty to get excited about, from the sax-laden shuffle of previously unreleased “Corcovado” and breezy skank of Zeb’s Ragga-Dub Rub of “Day By Day”, to the Cuban beats of John Beltran’s version of “It’s All Right”, and Buscemi’s carnival D&B reinterpretation of “It’s Over”.<\/p>\n
