The opening in March 1991 of Shelter on
\n6 Hubert St. was a journey of a musical epiphany.
\nWe came for a purpose. The purpose was to dance and to listen to good music.
\nWe did not know where we were going,but we did not care. We were on a musical journey.
\nWe took comfort at 6 Hubert St.
\nWe found our home.
\nShelter was the place to be.
\nYour soul cried Yes. Your soul screamed Hallelujah.
\nYour needs were met.
\nYou danced and you danced and you danced.
\nYou left with a new attitude.
\nWe were allowed to be ourselves.
\nWe were free. We were happy.
\nWe came back for more.
\nWe were hungry and thirsty for the beats and sounds of the drums.
\nToday we have accomplished 30 years of being different.
\nNever better or average.We were just different.
