Fred P – Distant Rain (Mule Musiq)
There’s been plenty of sightings of Fred P in more techno-led realms of late, but this EP for Mule Musiq reveals some interesting new shades to his production style. “Distant Rain” heads in with a distinct line in grainy, piercing arpeggios well out of the usual soulful haze Fred weaves around his music. There’s a Detroit weight to the more rhythmic chords in the track, but really that cosmic techno synth steals the show. “Using Machines” on the other hand is a low slung jazz affair with lightly brushed drums and a gorgeous spread of horns, piano guitar locked into a carefree, summer breeze of a tune.
