After a three-year hiatus, deep house stalwart Jenifa Mayanja returns to action with a four-track EP that effortlessly explores the more spiritual side of the style. Mayanja’s Ugandan heritage is referenced on the deep, evocative, soft focus, Afro-house opener “Even In The Darkness We See”, before she layers up rich Rhodes chords, dreamy pads and broken rhythms on the similarly luscious “Right Around The Corner”. Flip for the classic U.S deep house – think Ron Trent, Chez Damier etc. – of “Human Nature”, and the sultry, sun-bright, calypso-influenced Trinidadian Deep rework of the same track.
