DJ Kawasaki – Sunshine Madness 7″ – HMV Japan

Tokyo producer and keyboardist DJ Kawasaki returns four later with ‘Sunshine Madness’, a radiant 7″ running two instrumental takes on his latest jazz-fusion groove in nice parallel. The A reunites him with New Yorker and Taiwanese vibraphonist Chien Chien Lu, whose shimmering tones lend a sophisticated bounce reminiscent of Roy Ayers at his best and most spirited. On the far side, Little Tempo’s steel-pan player Tsuoshi “Tico” Habu transforms the tune into a breezy West Indian daydream, tracing dotted link between Tokyo’s club and Caribbean island rhythm culture. Co-produced by Shuya Okino of Kyoto Jazz Massive, it’s a summer-minded, rhythm-rich statement in sunstricken sound from Kawasaki and his band.
