Joaquin ‘Joe’ Clausell’s popular and long-running Edits & Overdubs series of hush-hush reworks releases has so far included inspired takes on tracks by everyone from Nina Simone, Michael Jackson and Rosie Gaines to Radiohead, Instant Funk, Can and Yello. Here he turns his attention to another beloved artist, Quiet Storm specialists Sade, delivering a typically stretched-out take on ‘I Never Thought I’d See The Say’. As you’d expect, it sees the Body & Soul NYC resident combine the soft soulfulness, dreamy instrumentation and memorable vocals from the British band’s original mix with a sumptuous deep house groove and his usual layered percussion rhythms. It’s as classy and sympathetic to its source material as you’d expect, while gently escorting the song closer to deep house dancefloors.
