Something special here from Star Creature offshoot Tugboat Editions, as Austin-based boogie revivalists Vapor Caves offer up a killer cover of a much-loved intergalactic boogie gem, RAH Band’s 1983 British electrofunk classic ‘Messages From The Stars’. The American band’s interpretation is notably warmer and even more starry than the original, with squelchy synths, ear-catching organ motifs, jazz-funk bass guitar, woozy chords and layer upon layer of electronic colour. The full vocal A-side mix is our pick of the pair, though the instrumental take – in which the brilliance of the band’s instrumentation and arrangement comes to the fore – is almost equally as good. A genuinely must-have ’45’.
