Many congratulations to Japanese scene staple Flower Records, a pleasingly hard-to-pigeonhole bastion of sun-kissed grooves, jazzy goodness, Balearic beats and colourful downtempo goodness that this year celebrates 30 years in business. To mark this momentous occasion, the imprint has offered up this fine collection of largely unheard tracks and remixes. It’s a predictably impressive set from start to finish, with our current favourites including the sunshine reggae-soul joy of Onegram’s ‘Tsunagatta Music’, a stunning, Koyoto Jazz Massive-esque nu-jazz rework of Cruisic’s killer cover of 808 State’s ‘Pacific 707’, a hybrid nu-disco/Balearic spin on Su-Ka-Pooh’s ‘Kurage’ courtesy of Slowly, and the head-nodding reggae skank of Dominic Dawson’s deliciously
soulful ‘Baltimore’.
