Since 2003, the Luxury Soul Weekender crew has run popular soul events in the impressive surroundings of Blackpool’s Hilton Hotel. To tie in with this year’s edition, Expansion Records has asked resident DJ Ralph Tee to compile this luscious, three-disc exploration of soulful music past and present. There’s much to enjoy throughout, from the smooth, ’80s soul influenced vibes of Ryle’s “Two Way Love Affair”, the rubbery modern boogie of Faye B’s “Moving On”, and smooth soulful house of Phil Asher’s classic remix of Da Lata, to the revivalist disco strut of Kiki Kyte, slick R&B of Kashif, and the cinematic production of Ashley Scott’s heart-felt “Words”.
